Tian'anmen

Tian'anmen square and forbidden city
Our new interpreter is difficult to understand . So I will try my best with the blog. Another beautiful day, with no clouds in the sky and the sun is very bright.
I am going back to the square after having been there earlier for the flag raising ceremony.
The square is the largest in the word 1800 meters long. It also has the largest museum in the world, also the largest theater in the world. 10,000 people work in the square as there are many buildings around the square. I need to say cameras are on every roof. The square also has the largest Palace in the world. From the north gate to south gate it is 961 meters. From the east to the west  is 700 meters. The square is 440,000 sq. meters. Even though millions of people walk through the square, the square is still controlled by the government. We are given strict orders to watch our valuables and stay as a group.

One very interesting fact. Some of us asked about the incident that took place in Tian'anmen? This question was posed at least twice to our tour guide Mike. We feel as though he dodged the question entirely. Perhaps he was not old enough to know about this. We dropped the question and just reflected. Later I asked him his age. I thought he would have been in his 20's , but he was 33. So he must have been alive when the incident occurred.   Interesting.
