This village brought tears to my eyes. I took American Fags and United States pencils and handed them out. I regret I did not bring tiny erasers ...... Only because how they reached out for everything I had to give them. I then started to pull quarters out of students ears and in my 29 years of doing this trick...... These moments meant the most to me.
I shall never forget the faces of the boys and girls who were lucky enough to get the magic quarters. Boy..... Do I wish I could give them more. Any one who ever complains you really need to have a reality check..... We ALL are so fortunate. The principal gave us a welcome and was very glad to see us. The students who were in the room came out on Saturday to visit us. So did some of the staff......they probably got comp time. Lol this school has been here for sixty years and all students take English from the first day of school. One of the activities the students did was to help their eye sight. The principal s biggest concern is safety and discipline is not an issue. As I blog firecrackers are going off in the background celebrating our arrival. The supervisor of the school visits the school every week ..... I am so glad I do the same. Teachers are evaluated by morals, skills and the results of their teaching.... Oh boy here comes NCLB..... Work ethic is a strong priority. As we were ready to leave we presented our gifts to the principal. I presented a hard copy of my Skippy Goes to China Book. It was much appreciated and will be added to the library. I feel as though I left something about me that will remain there for many, many years. That thought and deed puts a smile on my faces and warms my heart. We left the village to go back to Xi'an for lunch.
Great gift.
