School

Curriculum reform lecture

Started in 2001 and started in one county.
In the HS curriculum reform started in 2009
The reform was due to those traveling in US and the economy. They were behind times. They are limited in how to teach , and how to observe. The content in text books is old and books  are used for a long time. They also lecture too much and not enough group work. They feel as though this does not promote creativity. Students have no incentive to be creative. They are working on critical thinking skills because they have little to none. They want us to encourage  them how to improve there schools.  The last three years they have seen improvement in curriculum reform...... But hard to change teachers of this concept. This is why they send teachers and administrators to our schools to learn from us. China also has a floating population. Tis means many parents come from the rural area to work. They may stay with someone and work all the time for several weeks, while this is being done the children are home alone without parent supervision. The students are taken care of by grandparents and this generation of grandparents were NOT educated, thus education is NOT a priority for the children.
Testing is a big issue ......high stakes testing. When this was being told to us all  we all smiled. They noticed our reaction as we told them we have the same issue. Limited time to get all the information for the test.
Students get too much Homework  and they are always studying and 19 % are nearsighted. They have little time for exercise and thehealth is at risk.
